Blog #6

In the novel, it is hard to determine whether "Big Brother" is an actual (one) person or what.  I guess that is also true in society today.  I would say that we have a "Big Brother" that is watching it, and it is not only one person, not a small group of people, but the entire government.  Like we discussed in class today, there are video cameras watching us in public areas, and people have easy access to information about us on the internet like pictures of us, our address, phone number etc.  I'm not sure if I would agree to say that we have "lost our right to privacy."  I believe that it is okay that there are cameras in public places, and things like that.  Are we willing to give up our freedoms in order to feel safe?  I think to an extent, yes.  Dealing with 1984 and the telescreen, they gave up some of their freedoms in order to be watched and kept in order.  In our society, this works the same with video surveillance.

  1. I agree that it is okay to have cameras in public, these cameras help prevent and solve crimes, and it's such an easy way to do so.

  2. Our blogs are similar in a way. Yes there are too many cameras and things that watch us in public.
But I do think it is well needed
