Something that inspired me in this class was the "because it's good for you" that was shown to us almost every class.  I really liked these, because most of what was shown or heard was something that I recognized, but I never took the time to really listen to it or think about it. So, it was nice to simply enjoy it.  Something that angered me in the class was the whole "dumbest generation" talk, and that people actually say that about my generation.  Everyone has their own views on it, but I feel like technology, etc. is being enhanced every single day.  So, why not take advantage of it?  Also, there was also the talk about we only want to learn about stuff that is relavant to us.  This is true, in a way, and I don't really see the problem with it.  Of course everyone wants to be well rounded...but with every person focusing on something different to do with their lives, we have a well rounded society instead of person.  So, in a way, i feel if anything we are being considerate instead of self-centered.
This literature class was much more interesting than what I had expected, because I am not one that really likes to read.  I liked the class, I would recomend it to my friends.

So i'm guessing that a world with no books would mean a world with everything on computers and TVs.  I mean, it would definitely be different, but personally, I would be okay with it.  I'm not much of a reader.  I only do it if I ABSOLUTELY have to.  I can see how it is a form or relaxation and everything, but I would much rather sit down and paint a picture to relax, or go for a run or something.  When I read, my mind just wonders anyway.

I guess that we technically "burn" books everyday by making more and more ways to view such stuff electronically.

I think this book might compare to events that happen in real life, but I think it is highly unrealistic to think that this would actually happen.  I think that this could relate to other books we have read so far such as Feed, because of this reason.  I believe that in Feed, some aspects are true in real life, but it goes to an extreme, just like in Hunger Games.  I personally prefer books that are non-fiction rather than fiction such as this, so I have a very hard time getting interested/ connecting to characters.

I chose a work of art that relates to this particular book because of the violence that it involves.  Guernica, painted by Poblo Picasso in 1937,  was painted to show the tragedies of war and suffering, mostly on innocent civilians, during the Spanish Civil War.

I do not watch much reality TV like Jersey Shore, and those kinds of shows.  But, as everyone in my group already knows, America's Next Top Model is my all time favorite show.  I'm not sure if that would be classified as reality TV or not, but I guess in a way it is.  It is real people in real situations, and there are conflicts between the girls that take place.  On this particular season, Alexandrea is that one to cause the problems.  I guess the whole reason I like to watch it so much is because I think that models have the coolest job EVER.  They get paid for looking nice, and they have someone do all of that for them!  They don't even have to do their own hair.  I guess i'm just in to that stuff, thats all :).

In the novel, it is hard to determine whether "Big Brother" is an actual (one) person or what.  I guess that is also true in society today.  I would say that we have a "Big Brother" that is watching it, and it is not only one person, not a small group of people, but the entire government.  Like we discussed in class today, there are video cameras watching us in public areas, and people have easy access to information about us on the internet like pictures of us, our address, phone number etc.  I'm not sure if I would agree to say that we have "lost our right to privacy."  I believe that it is okay that there are cameras in public places, and things like that.  Are we willing to give up our freedoms in order to feel safe?  I think to an extent, yes.  Dealing with 1984 and the telescreen, they gave up some of their freedoms in order to be watched and kept in order.  In our society, this works the same with video surveillance.

My first ad that I would have in my feed would be this Nike ad.  Staying active is very important to me, and I was always involved in sports such as field hockey, basketball and track.  I think that having this ad in my feed would motivate me while working out, etc.  I'm doing a 15k (9 mile) race in April, and I think that having something like this in my brain playing along the race would be very motivating!

The second ad that I would want in my feed would be this covergirl commercial with Taylor Swift.  This is for a number of reasons.  First off, I love make-up.  I think it is so much fun to try out the new stuff...but that's just how I am.  So, it would be cool to always see what is new!  Second, it has Taylor Swift in it.  She is my favorite singer...and people even have told me that we have similar hair?  I don't know.

My third ad is sort of weird.  It is from my favorite show, america's next top model.  I am not one to watch a whole lot of TV, but if i'm not going to miss an episode of a show, it's going to be America's next top model.  I love it!  Modeling would definitely be my dream, but obviously I would have to magically grow about 3-4 inches.  I would want this playing in my feed because fashion interests me, and I think fashion/make-up is a form of art.  Hence my major :)

My last ad in my feed would be for Dick's Sporting Goods.  It is my favorite store!  I love to get new clothes to work out in, and when I go in there, it is hard to get me out.  I would wear almost anything and everything in that store!  I would want this in my feed to always see what is new in store...and the commercials are always pretty cool too!

---I had a lot of fun doing this blog by the way.   =]

Last day of no electronics

So today was my last day.  This weekend was extremely easy to not use any electronics because first off, my boyfriend was home, and second I was sick so I spent most of my days sleeping anyway.  Not having a cell phone, facebook, etc.  wasn't all that bad for me.  I can't say that "it got me outside more" or "i found other things to do" because honestly I don't use that stuff all that often anyway, and I do spend a lot of time outside.  Either way, i'm glad its over so I don't have to worry about not keeping in contact with people or anything.
--Hope I feel better and see everyone in class on Tuesday :)
